Kitty and the Silver Bullet by Carrie Vaughn

7 Jan

Favorite Lines: ” “I don’t trust vampires.”

“And how many vampires do you actually know? That you didn’t stake?” ” (p. 82).

When Kitty fled Denver for her life, she never expected to return. Now her mother is deathly ill and she has no choice but to return and face the pack that sent her running in the first place. It’s only been a year, but much has happened. She has been publicly outed as a werewolf to the world and her midnight hour show has exploded.

She also is part of a pack of two, since her lawyer was bitten and turned into a werewolf. Her pack is now up against the Denver pack, at the same time as the vampires are fighting for a new master of the city. Kitty is forced to choose a side if she is to have any hope of coming out of the paranormal battle alive.

Old wounds have salt rubbed into them, and a discovery is made that rocks Kitty to the core. All excellent material for the newest Kitty installment.

Ms. Vaughn has created a great series with Kitty. I love the idea of a werewolf named Kitty for starters. I also love that Kitty has grown in the year since her exile. All of the books between Kitty and the Midnight Hour and Kitty and the Silver Bullet have prepared Kitty for the decisions she makes in the Silver Bullet.

It’s quite exciting to think about the way Ms. Vaughn has masterfully rolled all the growth of Kitty up and packaged her seemlessly into a new role in the Silver Bullet. Even better is the peace and balance that Kitty seems to find with her wolf.
