Claire Morgan was just a high school teacher trying to help a student, until she was bitten by a werewolf. Now she is in a race for her life. If the the curse is not broken before the next full moon she will lose her soul.
The only way to break the curse is to kill the alpha of the lycan who bit her. Unfortunately for her, she has no idea who that could be.
Gideon March was saved from certain death by a man who shot a monster that had killed his father. He watched that same monster transform into his mother. From that day forward, he trained to rid the world of the unholy creatures of the night as part of an elite group, NODEAL. His motto was “destroy them at any cost” but he couldn’t destroy Claire.
Determined to help Claire find and kill the alpha, Gideon wavers between a stoic distance and sexual passion that consumes him. He has already told Claire that he will kill her before the full moon, rather than allow her to become a soulless creature.
The two are in a race against time, with werewolves wanting Claire and a NODEAL agent wanting to kill her.
Most shapeshifter books lately have been about them being good. This is not one of those books. The shifters in Ms. Kohler’s story are violent and sexual creatures. They live to kill and procreate. Fortunately for Claire, it’s not a sudden transformation, but a slow one that occurs during the time of being bitten and the full moon.
Claire is feeling the need for sexual satisfaction and anger like never before. She begins to shine and grow, leaving the reader wondering if she is saved will she revert to her old lifestyle as the ‘mouse’ or if she’ll find a new place.
Gideon also grows, and it seems that he had stalled in his emotional development at an early age. He was stuck with the idea of there being black and white, with gray not existing. Through out the book this concept is challenged and it is interesting to watch his inner struggle.
This is book one in a new series by Ms. Kohler. I look forward to reading the next installment.
